A rare German breed, the Bielefelder has only been around since the 1970’s. This bird gets very large, making it docile and a good dual-purpose bird. The hens will average 225 brown eggs per year. They are a cross of 4 different breeds: Barred Rock, Maline, Rhode Island Red, and New Hampshire Red. The chicks are easy to tell apart when hatched, the females being darker, and the males lighter. Mature hens average 6 1/2 lbs. while mature roosters average 8 1/2 to 10 lbs.
